Kyanoxalite

Kyanoxalite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the organic mineral class, with the chemical formula Na₇(Al₅₋₆Si₆₋₇O₂₄)(C₂O₄)₀.₅₋₁.₀·5H₂O.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group P6_3). It is a member of the Cancrinite, Cancrinite-sodalite, Oxalate structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5–5.5; specific gravity 2.29–2.3; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Kox, IMA status: approved, named in 2008.

A rock-forming mineral in hydrothermally altered peralkaline rocks and pegmatites of an alkaline massif.

It is found associated with Nepheline, aegirine, sodalite, nosean, albite, lomonosovite, murmanite, fluorapatite, loparite, natrolite.

The name refers to its color, kyanos (Greek for blue), and presence of species-defining oxalate anion.
